Nil illegitimi carborundum
Tonight, Eddie Meyer uttered the word 'bastard' more times within one episode of PM than I have ever heard it used in several years of listening to Radio 4.

I was playing badminton so didn't hear PM as I usually do. What was the context? I noticed that Chris Addision used a bastard in the comedy slot between 18:30 and 19:00. The bastards are certainly creeping in to early evening broadcasting!

Patrick Mercer's gaffe in the Times, which was quoted and misquoted several times.

The truly cringeworthy instance was Meyer saying to a Scottish ex-army officer (who had just admitted getting stick for being a Scot), 'So you've been called a Scottish bastard the?'.

It was in context, but they perhaps didn't need to say it quite so many times!
