Six hours until England v Australia in the Fuur Nations final - I wonder if we can actually beat them for a change. Would be the first time we'd taken any sort of tournament off them since the 1972 World Cup! Such is the strength of their league I suppose.
In non-sporting news, it appears that the new fridge is happy. I have lots of soup burbling away on the cooker with the last of the previous freezer's contents. Hopefully I won't have to eat it all myself, I'm enough of a lardy pie as it is!
Also, it seems our walls can't take the combined weight of two curtains. This is going to take some big screws, and possibly a plasterer...
I'm not on the list for free flu jabs (grump: despite fact I teach 1000s of grotty students and get flu every year :( and was thinking of making the effort this year to actually go pay for both seasonal and piggy flu jabs.
Does anyone know where is doing this? My GP surgery was completely unhelpful, as was local Boots.. I have a vague recollection of Asda? But nothing on Google.
Thanks muchly to Padmini for the Revolutionary Party. I went as John Lennon, Julie went as Princess Leia and we both had a good time. Here's a couple of photos, taken by Erin (first one) and Morag (as Erin's _in_ the second photo as James Dean):
Julie helped me put together the t-shirt - recolouring the John Lennon picture and sorting out transparency issues for me, for which I'm rather grateful. Having a photoshop whiz in the flat is dead handy :->
I'm in need of a new flat screen monitor, oh great peoples of Edinburgh. Does anyone have a second hand one that they might be willing to part with? I'm also a poverty stricken student, so am looking for a 17" for which I can afford around £30ish or a 19" for which I can afford around £60ish. I can probably negotiate a bit on price, however.
Does anyone have anything they'd like to get rid of? Pretty please?
I will shortly have a free 17" monitor. It sort of works - the connection for the mains is loose at the back, so you need to use tape to hold the connector sideways (it's a 1-pin one not a 3-pin one). If you have more patience than me and also a supply of tape and plasticine (or technical abilities to fix it!), you would be able to use this monitor. Aside from that issue, when the monitor is actually supplied with mains power, it's a very shiny and rather nice monitor.
Took delivery of a new fridge at some unearthly hour this morning. Better than sitting around all day I suppose. All appears to be fine with it. Was amused by the instructions though:
"Place in a well-ventilated humidity-free environment".
I'm currently trying to decide whether I should sne dthe fridge back, or just buy a tonne of silica gel for the living room.

I'm looking for someone who can read/ write Belarussian. I'm trying to deal with an archive in Belarus but apparently they aren't receiving my emails and I have yet to get an answer to my letter. I don't know if the problem is that I write in English, but I thought I might try in their own language and see if I get any further. I can pay a small amount - negotiable - and don't need much beyond a few emails and help reading the documents if they ever arrive! Any takers?
I am going to host some friends in my flat and i am looking for a mattress (one that could be putted away is the best solution). Is there a place that sells air ones near nicolson street?
